One year has passed since the death of Waleed. To his mother and father, life is not the same any more. It has changed. Sadness has a permanent residency. Praying is their daily bread. They live with the beautiful memories, which Waleed has given them during his thirty-four years of life. Reminiscences form a non-stop companion and a big part of their daily life. His pictures, his garden, his memorabilia take the preference in their choices of passing time. Every gorgeous scenery, every beautiful piece of music, every stunning odor, every smooth touch and every striking taste remind them of Waleed. They do appreciate the efforts of friends, new and old, to make life easier for them. The support of these friends comes in many shapes and forms. Messages, phone calls, Prayers are just a few. These are greatly appreciated. Without them their life would have been more difficult. The wound is still there, but they are learning how to live with it. If it were possible to go back with history to September 11 2001, they would choose to be on flight AA11 in their son’s place. (September 15, 2002) |

One year has passed since the death of Waleed. My griefing will never end. The smiling me is gone. From the outside, I will try to show a happy face. But inside, sadness is all over me. The real me is changed. My son has gone. His picture is in my heart. His voice is in my ears. His memory never departs me. The best part of the day is when I am in church praying for him. I feel he is next to me. I feel as if I am talking to him and he is listening to me. (September 20, 2002) |

September 24, 2002, we visited the Monastery of St John the Baptist in Douma, Lebanon. An order of nuns and priests found by Mother Mariam. They are hard working religious individuals who have devoted their lives to the service of Christ. Mother Mariam never stopped praying for our son Waleed. Thank you Mother Mariam. September 28, 2002, we visited the church of Imm-el-Mrahim in Miziara, Lebanon. A beautiful church donated by a Lebanese, Marcel Shaghouri to the people of Miziara. Statues of Jesus and all the apostles ornate the entrance. Scenes from the life story of Saint Mary gives the place a Pious feeling. Praying inside the church gave me a very touching emotion. Pat Monson, the Principal of "St. James the Less" School in La Crescenta, CA, gave me this morning a big envelop. Inside the envelop there were sympathy cards from the students of the first, fourth and fifth grades for the first Anniversary of the death of our son Waleed. Samia and I read each and every card. They have touched our hearts with the words and the designs of cards that each student has created. Thank you students of St. James School. Thank you teachers of St. James School. Thank you dear Pat. As usual, I was going through the memorabilia of Waleed. I came across a paper dated February 28 1984. It is a promissory note that Waleed signed for me when he had plans to travel after he graduates from his High school. I remember the argument that we went through to get the figure of 4%. I wanted 10%, the current interest rate at that time. He argued to reduce it to 4%. He went on with his plans. He visited all the countries he wanted to visit. He satisfied the urge inside him for seeing the world. That was Waleed ....

November 2, All Souls day: Today, Father Sean Cronin gave a special Requiem Mass in memory of all the dead people of our Parish. It was a very beautiful Mass. His Homely was about Death and the ever lasting life. Every word he said reminded me of Waleed. Thank you Father At the end of the Mass, the "In Paradisum" was sang. May the Angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs greet you at your arrival and lead you into the holy city, Jerusalem. May the choir of Angels greet you and like Lazarus, who once was a poor man, may you have eternal rest. (November, 2, 2002) |
