~     August 25      ~

It is your birthday.
I started the day by going to church. We had the mass celebrated in your memory.
Our friends Beverly and David Werneburg made buttons of your picture and clipped them on their chests. Father Sean Cronin, the celebrant priest, mentioned that the mass is in memory of your birthday.
At the same time the family Iskandar in Beirut had also celebrated a mass in your memory. We prayed to God to rest your soul in peace.
I thought of you all day. Your image was with me all the time.

We will never forget ...........

~     Jill Neptune Bicks message to you      ~

Happy Birthday, Waleed! And fondest wishes to all friends and family who loved him.

At the one-year memorial service I attended 9/11/02, I said that there were 3 specific lessons I learned from Waleed: to dream, to love, and to giggle. I try to do each of those because I think they make my life better. They also make the world better -- which is one reason Waleed was such a gift to this world. I will never forget Waleed's capacity to dream, to love, and to giggle. When we spoke the day before he died, I vividly recall all the plans we spoke of - plans for his wedding, for his future career(s), for the next stages of his wonderful and intriguing life. We also laughed a LOT that day. I treasure those memories and I treasure the 3 lessons he taught me -- lessons which are priceless gifts.
(Speaking of gifts, Waleed, a good-luck token you brought me from your trip to India is something my son now plays with. I think of you every time he brings it out of the drawer and think it's you still caring for all of us.)
Waleed was a wonderful man, a wonderful friend, and a wonderful inspiration to many of us who had the pleasure of being around him for any length of time. Joseph, Samia, Nicolette, Sany, May -- and everyone else -- may you find peace like Waleed demonstrated to all of us!

Love,
Jill

~     A poem for you      ~

This is a poem that was written by your uncle Edmond in memory of your birthday:

All the members of your family,
Every night and day feel your absence.
And hope one day they meet with you,
Though it is a long way to go through.

Our memory is getting too weak,
To think of what we want or what we seek.
Therefore we must look for a remedy,
To refresh and keep it alert and ready.

As the time passes by don't ever think,
That this will effect any link.
your love in our heart is sublime,
And loaded with the greatest esteem.

We know that you think of us
And you pray, as we do and plus.
Parents, friends and relatives
Are sure in place of you no alternatives.

~     Father Abdalla Zaidan      ~

On Sunday, September 7, father A. Zaidan gave a special mass for the victims of September 11 2001. After the homily, he presented us with a gift of the cross, hand painted on glass, with the following inscription:
"If God is with us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:31.
He delivered a well appreciated speach about death and the life after.

We thank father Zaidan for his caring and for his thoughtfulness.

Mass 911 Fund organized a Memorial servicefor the victims of September 11, 2001. They are planning to erect a permanent Memorial in "Boston Garden" in memory of those victims who had some links with Massachusetts State.
Waleed went to Harvard University (1991-1993). He worked at "Monitor Group", a consulting company based in Cambridge, from 1989-2001. He lived in Boston from 1990-1996.
So, his name will be amongst the 197 victims from MA who died on that day.
The ceremony was very beautiful.
Thank you Mass 911 Fund.

Our son Sany received a letter from Senator Edward Kennedy on September 10 2003 ( You can read it by clicking on the image). Two days after the horrible attack, Sany received a telephone call from the senator. He wanted to convey his sincere condolences to the Iskandar family.
We thank the senator and his wife for their thoughtfulness.
May the Lord guard them safely.

~     A New Poem by Edmond Iskandar      ~

At Sunrise twenty fifth of August,
A Baby born healthy and robust.
Parents named him Waleed,
Handsome and brilliant indeed.

Double three and one his living years,
When parents heard the thunder accident.
So strong that left them mute and silent.
And over all heavy striking fears.

That is the unforgettable date.
On the Eleven of September,
Which broke our heart and temper,
And left us facing our fate.

Your Memorial day we never miss,
It reminds us Your noble greatness.
It is world wide celebrated
And in our heart animated.
What ever and how hard is the stress,
We always dream of your tender kiss.

How long our life will extend,
Number of nights and years never count.
One thing you must understand,
That our love to you will never end.
